such imbecile authority to decide whether they should enjoy eternal life or not?
It does not matter all that much when a Court of Law works an injustice. It does matter, because all injustice matters; but it is not the end of the world, not even for the litigants. But the thing about eternal life is that you must not be wrong; if you take eternal life from somebody, you simply must not make a mistake. It is as simple as that.
We all make mistakes. So the only solution is that one person cannot be allowed to take eternal life from another. If a person has eternal life, and loses it, they must lose it by their own voluntary act. They must deliberately throw it away, as Esau threw away his heritage for a plate of stew. No other system even begins to be workable. And because no-one passes judgment, and no-one executes sentence, the very doing of the act must be the throwing away of eternity; or possibly the throwing away of eternity must be a condition precedent to the act. The loss of eternity in certain circumstances must be part of the nature of creation, in just the same way that the gaining of immortality, or a perfectly relaxed consciousness, is not the reward for a certain type of conduct, but is brought about and perpetuated by love and righteousness being put into practice, see Chapter 19. The loss of eternity lies in the destruction of consciousness necessary to do the particular immoral act. Naturally consciousness is not completely destroyed; so the loss of eternity lies in the destruction of that part of consciousness, or that quality of consciousness, which was relaxed and which had to be destroyed before the act could be done.
