Therefore we light upon the truth, that when a god begins a creation, he must never abandon it, and never destroy it. And when You, as creator, realise this, you will find your freedom of action very much curtailed in the future; you will find that this rule imposes strict limits on the amount you can interfere with your creation once created, because you must never interfere in a way that might ultimately lead (if things were to go wrong) to your wanting to abandon your creation or destroy it. In other words the only thing, which it is safe for you to do, is to love your creation, because of the impossibility of your ever creating another afterwards. You could create as many as you liked at the same time; but you could never destroy one and create another to replace it. However, if a creation involves the crucifixion of god, most gods would say that one creation was enough.
To summarise therefore, you would give man immortality and the same consciousness as yourself only if love compelled you to do so; otherwise prudence demands that men must die, and do not have the consciousness of immortality. When would love compel you to share your life and consciousness with an individual man? Only when you loved him as your own son. All the saints are agreed about this. For instance: John of the Epistles says we are the sons of God in this world. So you the creator would have to keep the door open, to allow yourself to share your life with man, because love might compel you to want to do it. What mechanism would you choose for ensuring that man was kept in subjection, until you wanted to share your life with him? Well, the obvious mechanism to choose is the consciousness; so you postulate that men who have the consciousness of mortality must die, because there is something in that consciousness that kills; whereas those who achieve the consciousness of immortality (either by their own efforts, or by your gift) are compelled to share your life. If they rebel, and refuse to share your life, they are of course free to…
