MAN’S RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

Chapter 39 - On the Failure to Recognise the Nature of Things

inspired the psalmist to say,

“Awake my soul: awake lute and harp:
I myself will awaken the morning.
For the greatness of thy mercy reacheth unto the heavens:
And thy truth unto the clouds.”?

All I know is that the search for an indwelling between people is a manly pursuit. Whether it is a womanly pursuit as well, I will leave it to others to say, and to declare their experience. My only comment is that opinions without experience are virtually worthless. So too is throwing in one's lot with the God who created all things a manly thing to do; it is perfectly compatible with mastering the rules of conflict, and applying them honestly in one's own profession, on occasions ruthlessly.

        We all know what the intimacy between God and the soul is supposed to be like, if God exists at all. The psalmist described it best:-

“0 Lord, thou hast searched me out, and known me:
    thou knowest my down-sitting, and mine up-rising;
    thou understandest my thoughts long before.
Thou art about my path, and about my bed: and spiest out
    all my ways.
For lo, there is not a word in my tongue: but thou, 0 Lord,
    knowest it altogether.
Whither shall I go then from thy spirit:
    or whither shall I go then from thy presence?
If I climb up into heaven, thou art there:
    if I go down into hell, thou art there also.
If I take the wings of the morning: and fly to the
    uttermost part of the sea;
Even there shall thy hand lead me: and thy right hand shall
    hold me.”
