what happens when he does, that he is in a position to face evil with composure; and either accept it, or reject it. Before this stage is reached, he may do evil things; but he does not become evil. Before this stage is reached, he may resist evil; but with each victory over himself, with each rejection of allurement, tension is likely to mount. It is only when he is out of the wood, that a man is able to see his fellow men as they are. This is not to say that all people will see the same thing. The perfectly relaxed consciousness and the corrupted consciousness will see different facets of the truth; and their response to the good and evil that they see will also be different. But they will see what is there, and not what their imagination would like to be there. This is a step forward.
